Purdue's Zach Edey was one of the more polarizing prospects in the 2024 NBA Draft, and Memphis selected him No. 9 overall. At 7-foot-4 and 300 pounds, he's the heaviest player in the league and tied with Boban Marjanović and Victor Wembanyama as the tallest players.
Edey made his NBA Summer League debut against Utah on Monday night and had an immediate impact: The former Boilermaker went 7 for 12 from the field for 14 points along with 15 rebounds and four blocks. He made a crucial shot at the end of regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Jazz won 97-95.
Today, the Grizzlies faced off against the Sacramento Kings and won 103-83. But Edey did not suit up for the game.
Why did Zach Edey sit out tonight's Grizzlies-Kings game?
Edey missed his third Summer League game in a row tonight because of a sore ankle stemming from an injury in the win over the Jazz. He hurt his ankle early in that contest but came back into the game to make crucial buckets for the Grizzlies.
Trey Jamison took Edey's spot in the starting lineup against the Kings and tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
The Grizzlies are back in Summer League action Monday against the Dallas Mavericks. There's currently no timetable for Edey's return but that could be enough time for him to be back in action.
