A slow-moving nor'easter brought snow, strong winds and power outages to Maine on Wednesday, with more harsh weather expected to arrive Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a "major spring snowstorm" will continue to impact the region today, with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour possible through the morning commute.
The NWS says the heaviest snow will diminish by midday, although lighter precipitation will likely continue into this evening. Snow showers are expected to linger through Saturday, according to the forecast.
The Portland Press Herald reports that state offices and many municipal offices will be closed Thursday, in addition to state and federal courts also being closed. Some school districts have also canceled classes.
According to AccuWeather, effects from the storm, ranging from cold air and gusty winds, will linger for days in much of the eastern part of the United States.
